There will be no Rock Band 5, says Harmonix. That’s not a doom-and-gloom thing, though. They want Rock Band 4 to be a platform, and the first update is already scheduled for Dec. 8.
This first update will add new social and competitive features like Variable Breakneck Speed. This is a long-requested feature from fans that allows players to control how fast notes travel down their own track.
The team is already building new features as well, says Harmonix CEO Steve Janiak. The features are a mix of fan feedback and ideas from within Harmonix, including “a new mode that changes gameplay in a really significant way that we think people are going to love.”
“This first feature update is just the beginning,” says product manager Daniel Sussman. “We can’t wait to share more details after launch.”
Rock Band 4 hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Oct. 6.
