We saw some of the first in-depth gameplay footage of Rise of the Tomb Raider during Microsoft’s gamescom press conference, and for this demo they chose to focus on the game’s stealth and combat elements.

It looks great, but it’s also a bit off-putting; Lara had issues with killing in the first game, but in this she looks like a killing machine with tons of takedown moves and gadgets like poison arrows. She feels more like Batman, if he actually killed, or a Far Cry character. It doesn’t feel like the Lara Croft we had in 2013’s Tomb Raider, who was a compelling character thanks to her inexperience and struggles.

With that said, they made one excellent game, so my hopes are high that they can make another.

There wasn’t as much to see on the exploration side, but the presenter did note that Rise of the Tomb Raider is three times the size of “anything we’ve made,” which presumably includes its already-huge predecessor. Admittedly, combat is easier to demo than exploration in a short presentation, so it’s not that surprising.

Rise of the Tomb Raider hits Xbox One and Xbox 360 on Nov. 10, 2015, with PC coming in early 2016. PlayStation 4 will see the game in the fall of 2016.
