BlackBerry app gifting

RIM has quietly launched a new BlackBerry App World beta today that comes just in time for the holiday season. With the latest release, users can gift BlackBerry apps to their loved ones this Christmas via the BlackBerry Messenger chat service, and those hoping to get BlackBerry apps gifted to themselves can also request apps from their friends.

The update also features the new content rating system that was recently introduced by RIM, and means all applications are now rated general, teen, mature, or adult as necessary. These will certainly be handy if you plan on gifting games to little ones.

RIM has also extended the reach of BlackBerry App World in Asia, with support for Chinese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese languages; in addition to support for Dutch users as well. And it has enabled access for user over Wi-Fi — meaning you no longer need a data connection to access the store.

According to The Next Web, these improvements should mean big business for RIM. Not only are the Canadian company's devices particularly popular in Asia, but gifting virtual presents — such as apps — is also more common that in western markets.

To try out the latest BlackBerry App World beta, simply visit the BlackBerry Beta Zone and download App World 3.1.
