PlayBook OS 2.0

Research In Motion has confirmed, not surprisingly, that it will upgrade the BlackBerry PlayBook to its new, and still unreleased, BB10 operating system. "At some point after the launch we'll bring BB10 to our PlayBooks, yes," RIM's vice president of product management Rob Orr told TechRadar.

Orr also reiterated, in a seemingly bitter way, that RIM will have its first BB10 powered smartphone on the market by the end of the year. "We've said publicly a number of times that our first BB10 handset will be available towards the end of 2012, and that's still firmly the case," he said. BB10 is based off of the same QNX platform that was used for the BlackBerry PlayBook, so we're expecting a huge enhancement compared to the performance and user interface of BlackBerry smartphones as we know them today.

Orr didn't say when the PlayBook would receive the update, but we imagine it will be around the same time that the first BB10 smartphone hits the market.
