Capcom has been hinting at the possibility of a remake of Resident Evil 2 for some time, but now it’s official. In a video posted to YouTube, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi announced the project.

“You’ve been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven’t been able to make that happen… until now,” he said.

While I’ve found myself getting pretty exhausted with remakes, games like this and Final Fantasy VII are great candidates for a re-imagining. The game is old enough that a refresh will make a big difference. Bringing the game even up to the standards of the GameCube remake of the original would be a big jump, so we’re looking forward to seeing what Capcom can do.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil 0‘s remaster is on the way for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime in early 2016.
