The title up above isn’t hyperbole. Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, really did spoil the ending of Avengers: Infinity War. (And somehow Marvel let him live.)
In an interview last July with Good Morning America, Ruffalo and co-star Don Cheadle talked about the movie, which was still many months from release.
At first, it appears Ruffalo is having a bit of fun by asking Cheadle if he can say something about the film. But instead of revealing a teaser, Ruffalo blurts out what actually happens. And people say actor Tom Holland is bad at keeping secrets.
“Like any other Marvel movie, it doesn’t end well for the superheroes,” Ruffalo said.
The interviewer then chimes in, and that’s when Ruffalo goes full rogue.
“Wait until you see this next one, everybody dies,” Ruffalo said. “Not everybody… is that… can we rewind that part?”
Cheadle reacts in exactly the way you’d expect. “Dude!”
At the time, everyone thought the exchange was just banter between the two actors. I mean, no way would Ruffalo reveal the ending to Avengers: Infinity War months before its release. But he did.
Surprisingly, in a new interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cheadle said Marvel didn’t really reprimand either actor after the gaffe. Which is the biggest surprise, considering how secretive the studio is.
The lesson here is that if you ever encounter Mark Ruffalo and you ask him to give you a small teaser for Avengers 4, he might end up spoiling the entire movie. Hey, Mark, if you’re reading this, care to chime in on the Professor Hulk rumor floating around?
