When Red Dead Redemption 2 is released next month, Rockstar will introduce players to a richly detailed take on the Wild West, and to help players immerse themselves in the boots of Arthur Morgan, the game will support a first-person viewpoint, similar to what was introduced by Grand Theft Auto’s V’s port to next-gen consoles.
When the first-person perspective came to the world of Grand Theft Auto V, it changed the game completely. The mode in Red Dead Redemption 2 will provide players with similarly up-close view of the game’s detailed world—everything can be experienced in first-person, whether you’re hunting, fishing, horse riding, or having a conversation.
It might not be the most ideal way to play more action-oriented sequences, but it should allow players to feel more connected to the world around them, something Rockstar is really focusing on with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Here’s a description of the mode from Polygon, which got to play two hours of the game:
If you’re standing next to your steed, you can press a button to “study” it and another button to brush its coat. We tried this in first-person mode, and the perspective really shows off just how much detail Rockstar has put into the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. We could see dust particles coming off the horse as Arthur pulled the brush across its coat, as well as individual hairs in the animal’s mane.
If the first-person perspective isn’t your thing, the game also supports different third-person viewpoints, including a cinematic option that will display the action from more dramatic angles.
Red Dead Redemption 2 hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26.
