Rockstar has given us a great look at the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, including the varied locations players will explore. In addition to encountering NPCs along the way, players will also encounter around 200 species of wildlife, again highlighting just how detailed the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be.
When players take control of Arthur Morgan, the game’s main protagonist, they’ll be able to partake in hunting and fishing, which Rockstar says is an essential park of survival. For example, hunting will not only provide food, but it will provide materials and a source of income.
“Deer, bison, and pronghorn traverse the plains in large herds, scavengers quickly sniff out carrion, sockeyes salmon leap upstream, wolves attack in packs surrounding their prey, geese fly in fixed formations, possums play dead, rodents scamper into tree hollows, grizzly bear bluff charge when threatened, and birds of prey soar on thermals,” Rockstar wrote on a page dedicated to the game’s wildlife. “They all form part of a complex ecosystem and must continually fight for their place on the food chain. The wilderness is at once a bountiful and perilous place, for both man and beast, and any predator can quickly turn prey.”
When hunting, players will need to be patient and move quietly so they don’t scare off their prey. Make a wrong move, and you’ll miss your chance. When you do get a shot, your shot placement will affect the quality of meat and pelt, which in turn affects the price that traders will pay, Rockstar said.
Red Dead Redemption 2 hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26.
