Interspersed throughout Remedy’s upcoming Quantum Break are some live action segments, one of the game’s most touted features. At certain points in the game, you’ll make decisions for the game’s antagonist that will affect how the game plays out. That will also affect which episode of the show you see. This choice-based viewing has resulted in, according to Remedy, “40 different variations of the show in total.” The resultant size, Remedy told Game Informer, is going to keep the episodes off the disc when the game ships next month.

Instead, you’ll stream the episodes. Narrative designer Greg Louden says that this wasn’t always the approach, but the size of the video forced them to make a decision between crunching the game or the episodes, or pulling the episodes out.

“We wanted to create this high quality game experience and use all the disc space to maximize the visual effects qualities of the animations and all that stuff. So for us, it was kind of like a natural choice,” Louden said.

If you’re playing on Xbox One, there’ll be an option to download the episodes. PC players, though, will have the option of watching the video at 4K, so pulling down the files won’t be available. So it would’ve been this, or a game that takes up multiple Blu-ray discs and massive amounts of hard drive space.

This is definitely going to be frustrating for players with slow Internet connections, and there’s no word yet on what happens if your Internet connection is non-existent at the time of the videos. We’ve reached out to Remedy for comment and will update the story if we’re able to get confirmation. For most players, this isn’t going to be an issue, as video streaming compression is better than ever, and most Internet connections can handle streaming easily, but a few here and there will feel the crunch.

Quantum Break hits PC and Xbox One on April 5.
