Qualcomm’s developing a next-generation chipset that’ll be faster and more efficient than anything we’ve ever seen. Its details are mostly unknown, but an alleged benchmark test leaked online and reveals what can be expected. Needless to say, the 2019 flagships are going to be all-out beasts.
The benchmark test, which was done on AnTuTu, appeared on Weibo this week. Aside from revealing the specifications and performance, the leak mentions a name. Qualcomm could call this the Snapdragon 8150, not the Snapdragon 855. Because of its groundbreaking structure, the chipmaker might go with a different-than-usual moniker.
Here’s a screenshot of the results:
So where did the Snapdragon 8150 finish? In front of all of the top-of-the-line chips out today. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8150 turned out results better than what’s offered by Huawei and Samsung. Even Apple’s A12 Bionic was defeated in the race.
It’s the first chip to ever cross 360,000 points on AnTuTu. By comparison, the Snapdragon 8150 has a near-3% advantage over the Apple-made chip inside the iPhone XS and the iPhone XR. Other chips, however, are blown out of the water by Qualcomm’s latest creation.
The chip should have a three-cluster CPU design. One core will be tasked with speed, and another four will assist with regular tasks. But there will also be four efficiency-focused cores. Then there will be an Adreno 640 GPU to keep animations as crisp and smooth as possible. Qualcomm’s new GPU should be up to 20% better than its predecessor.
When it comes to a launch date, Qualcomm could introduce the Snapdragon 8150 sometime in December. However, you won’t see it in any mobile devices until early 2019. So be on the lookout for Snapdragon 8150-powered smartphones at CES in January and MWC in February.
