Double Fine and Starbreeze finally delivered some solid Psychonauts 2 gameplay footage, showing off how beautifully Raz and his mind-boggling world translate into modern day graphical capabilities.
The sequel to the cult-classic platformer has longtime fans excited beyond belief, and while we only see a bit of gameplay here, the trailer feels right at home with the cast, setting, and mood. It's like not a thing has changed over the last thirteen years except for screen resolutions.
In fact, if we're talking cult-franchises of that era, this trailer is far more loyal to its predecessor than Beyond Good & Evil 2's reveal trailer. Ugh, I still get sick thinking about that.
Psychonauts 2 is more than just a thirteen year wait. Double Fine's project got its beginnings as a crowd-funding campaign through its own website Fig, and fans love the original so much that they threw $3.8 million dollars in Double Fine's direction to make it, shattering the requested $500,000.
The game currently has a 2019 launch window, so here's to hoping it turns up at The Game Awards next year, except as a nominee and not an announcement.
