Professor Layton for 3DSSatoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, sat down with Level-5 CEO and President Akihiro Hino to discuss the 3DS, Professor Layton and the changes coming to the series. Over the length of several pages worth of interview, Hino finished his discussion by specifically addressing what bringing Layton to a 3D medium with Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle has done to evolve the puzzle solving within.

…I thought I'd have to remake the Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle into something more "whoa"-worthy…

Thanks to the Nintendo 3DS system, the puzzles in this game are all brand new, and I think you'll feel as though you're playing something completely new, something no one's ever seen before. It's jammed with the fascination that its creators had with the new Nintendo 3DS hardware. The entire development staff is happy to be working on it, even though they are under the pressure of the development schedule.

…I think the more seasoned the Professor Layton player, the more difference they'll feel. Now about all the software LEVEL-5 is developing for the Nintendo 3DS system: the Nintendo 3DS system is a hardware that will kick the stereotypes present in the game industry to the curb.

While certainly brining that "whoa" factor to the table, Hino indicates that 3D will change the way puzzle solving is accomplished. Level-5 has always managed to make Layton fun, friendly, engaging and mind bending. Ad an extra dimension to their palette and the potential for gloriously frustrating puzzle solving grows immensely.

Professor Layton has evolved into a world wide success. The game sells well in just about every region its released, however it's particularly popular in Japan. It's set to release there later this month. There has been no word on its release for the rest of the world, but given the series' history, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle will almost certainly see shipment outside of Japan.
