Bethesda will be giving console gamers an early look into its upcoming horror shooter game Prey with an extensive demo that opens up the first hour of the game.

The demo will only be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, not the PC, on April 27, eight days before the actual game launches on May 5.

Available April 27 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Prey Demo: Opening Hour puts you in the role of Morgan Yu at the very start of the game. Your first day on the job quickly takes a dark turn, with aliens hunting down any surviving crewmembers, including you. Should the Typhon reach Earth, life as you know it will end. So slip into your TranStar uniform and download the demo in order to stop the alien invasion and save humanity.

Square Enix would be proud

It’s a nice gesture in a world where the idea of a free single-player demo is quickly losing its footing. Square Enix is the only major publisher that really grants such extensive looks into its games anymore, and this is exactly the kind of move that it would make.

Nicely played, Bethesda. Your game wasn’t on my radar, but now it is! A free demo is the absolute best way to get me to check it out.

Prey launches for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 5.
