Bandai Namco has started its process of putting Pokkén Tournament into some Japanese arcades for testing. That means we have a bunch of high resolution images to look at featuring the “cabinet” and its unique input method.

The images you see above come from the game and the look of the unit itself. That’s all fine and dandy, but I’m more interested in the title’s controller. It was revealed before, but here we see it close up. Notice anything?

Right, it looks like a Super Nintendo or Wii U layout. Consider the button order, from the top going in a clockwise direction, X, A, B and Y. That matches what we see on the Wii U today. Even further? Consider how far apart the d-pad is from the aforementioned lettered inputs. Looks like it’s nearing the spread of the Wii U’s GamePad.

Pokkén Tournament, once again, has only been officially announced and confirmed for release in Japanese arcades. We know its moving west eventually because Bandai Namco and Nintendo have said so. We don’t know, however, about the Wii U.

Given that this game was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation and that the arcade system actually features a controller (that looks like a Wii U input, to boot), I feel like it’s only a matter of time until we receive concise confirmation regarding platform availability.

Until then, maybe we’ll make our own Ron Duwell track one of these Pokkén Tournament arcade cabinets down in the wild. Sound good?
