The Pokemon Company is bringing the electric version of its popular card game to the mobile gaming scene all over the world this week. The Pokémon TCG Online app launches today in the United States, and wouldn't you know it, it is going to be free-to-play!

Micro-transactions will of course be part of the deal for gamers who want to buy booster packs of digital cards, but The Pokemon Company will provide several pre-made decks for beginners to get their collections up and running. This is the same version of the game that is available on PC and Mac, and if you already play one of these, you'll be able to bring your collections over to the mobile app.

Real world expansion packs and themed decks will also contain a code that will open cards in the digital game.

Nintendo might never be bringing a real Pokemon game to the mobile market, but The Pokemon Company obviously has no problem with scoring some extra revenue from this smart idea. I doubt Nintendo will follow suit with anything more substantial than this, but seeing an official Pokemon product on the iOS market is a little baffling.

If you are interested, be sure to check out the iOS app store today for the game.
