The NPDs are out, and there is no denying the victors of November. Call of Duty sort of continued its annual sweep of the month despite reports of it coming up short of expectations, and the PlayStation 4 continued to ride on the success of the PlayStation 4 Pro as the best-selling console of the month.

There are a lot of caveats there. Call of Duty dropped on Nov. 4, while Sun and Moon released on Nov. 18. There’s more, which we’ll get to in a bit here.

Pokémon Sun and Moon which enjoyed the biggest launch that the series has ever seen, beating out Pokémon Black and White.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon: Moon had the strongest launch in the history of the franchise, selling 8 percent more units than the previous best-selling combo of Pokémon: White and Pokémon: Black despite having 19 fewer days in market during the month.

The Nintendo 3DS benefitted from the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon as well.

Nintendo 3DS experienced its highest monthly physical software spending in the history of the platform. They were 1 percent higher than the previous high in December 2014.

Pokémon Sun and Moon could have topped the list, but…

According to the NPDs, the top ten best-selling games of November were:

  1. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  2. Battlefield 1
  3. Pokémon Sun*
  4. Pokémon Moon*
  5. Titanfall 2
  6. NBA 2K17
  7. Madden NFL 17
  8. Watch Dogs 2
  9. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim*
  10. FIFA 17

While it might look like Call of Duty sits high and mighty at the top, it’s worth pointing out that the asterisk next to the Pokémon games means that its digital sales were not measured. The NPD Group follows sales of PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, but it does not follow the eShop sales.

If those numbers had been recorded and Pokémon Sun and Moon has been listed as a single game, it would have claimed the number one spot for the month. In fact, if Sun and Moon were listed as one game, physical sales would have been enough to push it to the top, as confirmed by the NPD report.

Final Fantasy XV also launched at the very end of the month, so I’m sure we’ll be seeing that next month.
