PlayStation Network is hosting a huge month of high-profile indie releases, so if you’re able to put down The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Horizon Zero Dawn for two seconds and at the same time ignore Persona 5, you might find a game worth digging up in this latest Play Collective promotion.
I don’t want to complain about too much of a good thing, but 2017 is starting off with some seriously good video games, isn’t it? Perhaps a few too many…
Between March 21 and April 25, Sony plans to release six games through this collective. Check them out in the video below.
Classics or indies, where to begin…
Of these six games, two are ones I backed on Kickstarter. Both Cosmic Star Heroine and Rain World are already heading in my direction, and even if they weren’t, they would be the ones I prioritize. Cosmic Star Heroine is $14.99 for an entire JRPG worth of retro feelings, and Rain World looks like a beautifully animated yet frustrating game. Both also have Vita versions on the way, so the free cross-buy is an added bonus.
After that, I’m going to pull a shocker and highlight Full Throttle Remastered over PaRappa the Rapper. Double Fine has done a marvelous job modernizing Tim Schaffer’s classic adventure games from his time at LucasArts, and this is one of his lesser known games that deserves more attention. I’m in the camp that believes “something” is lost in the transition from pixelated graphics to the smoother HD graphics, but at least Double Fine has always offered the option to switch back and forth between the two.
I’m not sure if PaRappa the Rapper does or not, and when I played the demo, ehhh, I thought that sticking to my original disc is a perfectly acceptable option. The HD here doesn’t jive at all, and it looks cheap when you’re playing it in a way that doesn’t come through in the trailer.
I don’t know much about Everything or What Remains of Edith Finch, but they both look interesting at least. Check out all six of these games between next week and April 25.
