PlayStation Plus subscribers get the one and only Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD this week as the free game in the Instant Game Collection. Head on over to snag the free copy through the PlayStation Store.

Just a little history on this title beforehand. The first Oddworld games were early hits during the dawn of the first PlayStation console. Their hero Abe becoming a defacto mascot for the console with Crash Bandicoot at a time when consoles needed a mascot to succeed.

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee was originally intended to grace the PlayStation 2 alongside the first Xbox, but it quickly shifted to be an Xbox exclusive released during the console's launch. Sony fans never really got over the sting.

The series moved into multiplatform territory for a while, but series creator Lorne Lanning said that the new upcoming HD remake of the original game, Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty!, would not be coming to Xbox One thanks to the licensing Microsoft demands from indie developers. Plus, the series has always had an anti-capitalist message as well which doesn't fit the model.

Didn't seem that way when Munch's Oddysee first vanished from the PlayStation 2 line-up, but that's just speculation. The Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee HD Xbox 360 version is now listed as canceled, and available for free on a PlayStation platform once again.

Oh the drama. At any rate, check it out. It's a fun game.
