There is no stopping the PlayStation 4. For the fourth month in a row, Sony's next-gen console has been able to outperform the Xbox One, but once again it has failed to provide any specific number or sales figures.
"The April NPD report confirmed that PlayStation 4 was the top selling next gen console and remains the cumulative leader. In addition, inFAMOUS: Second Son was the top-selling next-gen software title in April. Since PS4 launched last November, over 7 million consumers have enjoyed rich and immersive gameplay, powerful graphics, and deeply integrated social features that are only available on PlayStation. Demand for PS4 continues to outstrip supply and we are working incredibly hard to provide additional inventory. We'd like to thank the PlayStation Nation…
The number of PlayStation 4s sold must be quite large, because Microsoft has reported that it sold 115,000 units in April, and of course, once again, it spots the best selling game on the market. Titanfall topped the list of game sales for the month.
"April NPD Group figures released today showed that Xbox One continues to lead in software sales with the most cumulative units sold for any eighth generation home console platform life-to-date. Combined, Xbox One and Xbox 360 held eight of the top 10 spots on the generation eight and generation seven console game lists in the US."
In total, the Xbox One sold 447,000 copies of software, and the Xbox 360 sold 2.2 million, combining for 53% of all gaming software sales in America.
However, Titanfall is going to be seeing its first big competition arise come May. Despite being released too late in the month to make the list, both Sony and the NPD reports that inFamous: Second Son was in fact the best selling next-gen game of the month. See the full published list below:
- Titanfall (360, XBO, PC)
- Call Of Duty: Ghosts (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, NWU, PC)

Not too much good news from the Nintendo camp this year, but sales have increased 80% over the month of April from last year. I'm pretty sure the Wii U will take what it can get at this point.
The battlefield is just warming up. Sony and the PlayStation 4 have been soaring for the entire 2014 calendar, but now that Microsoft has announced plans to drop Kinect from the Xbox One and release a cheaper model, how will the rest of the year play out? Xbox One sales are sure to dip while stragglers await the new model, but will it be able to catch up afterwards with the lower price point?
Oh, the drama!
