Oh look. It's another week, and Ron is once again writing about the Shin Megami Tensei series. What else is new?
Well, if Atlus would stop giving me so many reasons to write about its booming demonic franchise, which is easily the busiest on the video game market, then maybe I could stop. However, it has just released another PlayStation 2 Classic on the PlayStation 3, making it the fourth time in two months we've seen it rear its ugly head. Maybe Atlus has a huge game on the horizon or something it is hyping.
Despite sharing the series name, Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga is very far removed from the other games in its franchise. For example, there are no demons to forge alliances with or fuse together, but rather the characters can transform into demons themselves. Our characters are also battling six other tribes of beings for supremacy in a post-apocalyptic world called The Junkyard, and once the opposition is wiped out, they believe they will be delivered to paradise.
It's a dreadfully dark tale full of religious iconography and characters who can remember their past lives after they are reincarnated. Just be prepared to cough up money for its direct sequel once Atlus releases it a week or two from now.
If Digital Devil Saga is not enough for you, then Atlus is having a Nintendo 3DS sale this week in which Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor and Shin Megami Tensei: Soul Hackers are going for $14.99. They are joined by the 2D action game Code of Princess for what hopefully remains the normal sale price Atlus will go to until that $9.99 price tag roles around.
