The tech industry is pretty much settled on the idea that Apple is going to release a budget iPhone with a plastic body, likely destined for emerging markets and possibly the world's largest wireless carrier, China Mobile. We haven't had much of an idea of what the device will look like… until now. Tactus, a case maker, recently leaked the above photo. It is allegedly a snapshot of the rear case of the budget iPhone.

The case reminds us a bit of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, the only other time Apple has employed plastic in its iPhone case design, but with squared edges. As you can tell from the photo, all of the components will likely squeeze right in to the shell above.

It's weird to see Apple move back to a plastic iPhone, but as its stock price continues to dive it's important for the company to increase its market share globally, and a low-cost phone will be key to that move.
