Google Responds to Another Pixel 3 Rumor, Hints at Super Selfie Mode

Google decided that it’ll take a humorous twist for last-minute teasers.

As the Pixel 3 might not have too many surprises left for its global debut next week, the Mountain View-based company can have some fun with what’s leaked so far. It already poked fun at the ‘Pixel Ultra’ conspiracy, and now Google’s tackling a different rumor that’ll probably turn out to be true.

Both models are expected to have two front-facing cameras. It’s not entirely clear what types of lenses we’re getting, but 9to5Google reported on software-side feature involving them. The Pixel 3 might ship with Super Selfie Mode and enhance self-portrait shots.

In several posts across social media, Google went ahead and name-dropped the feature. The caption mentions Super Selfie Mode but stops short of a full-blown confirmation:

The Internet has speculated that there’s a “Super Selfie Mode” coming. Sorry Internet — no comment. Tune in 10/9 to see what we’ve really been working on. #madebygoogle. . . Doodle by Google hardware designer @jac.bae

Now we have to wait for the official unveiling to get confirmation and details. But, while leaving some ambiguity, the teaser laughs at what Super Selfie Mode could be. It speculates that a complex, DSLR-level lens opens from within the Pixel 3. Another sketch shows an attachment in which the Pixel 3 hangs from a user’s hat.

Although none of them are legitimate (we hope, at least), you have to appreciate Google’s self-deprecation. There aren’t many mobile devices that have leaked as often and clearly as the Pixel 3. Google, though, still wants to make the best of its situation in light fun.

We’re going to have live coverage from the Pixel 3 event, so stick with TechnoBuffalo on October 9. Our full coverage will include the Pixel 3 as well as the Pixelbook 2, Pixel Slate, Home Hub, and anything else Google surprises us with. It’ll be a wild day, and you won’t want to miss any of the announcements.
