Philips GoGear Connect 3.5

While many of us use our smartphones to watch videos, play music, and show off our snaps on the go, it seems there’s still plenty of room in the market for dedicated media players. Following the unveiling of Sony’s new Z1000 Walkman series yesterday, Philips has used this year’s CES to show off its new GoGear Connect 3.5.

As its name suggests, this device features a 3.5-inch touchscreen and — like Sony’s new Walkman — is powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which has been kitted out with a custom Philips user interface. You get Wi-Fi connectivity, and according to Android Police, a front-facing camera for video calling. Though we’ve failed to spot that in the image above.

The company’s press release doesn’t give away much else regarding the GoGear’s hardware, choosing instead to focus on its software. In addition to 720p high-definition video playback, the device also features Philips’ “FullSound” and “Surround for Movies” technologies, both of which promise to deliver a “superior” sound experience. It ships with the official Skype app pre-installed, and offers access to over 400,000 third-party applications via the Android Market.

The GoGear will be available this April with either 8GB or 16GB of storage, selling for $169.99 and $199.99 respectively.

Will you be saving up for the Philips GoGear Connect 3.5?
