The outspoken and sometimes downright absurd EA CCO Peter Moore has announced his intentions to vacate his position and leave to follow his other passion: soccer. Likewise, Liverpool FC also confirmed that they hired Moore to act as their CEO.

Moore, who has long been a champion of EA Sports, has been a larger-than-life figure in the video game industry for nearly 20 years. He was first hired by SEGA to be the frontman for the SEGA Dreamcast, and he found subsequent positions at Microsoft, where he infamously got a Grand Theft Auto tattoo to reveal that Microsoft picked up the series for the first time, and EA, where he constantly battled against the negative image of his company in the eyes of gamers.

His South Park cameo too… wow!

EA issued a response regarding Moore, and it wished him the best.

Passion is essential for all of us at Electronic Arts. It's what gets us up in the morning and drives us to do extraordinary things. And if you've ever met Peter Moore, you know that he quite literally wears his passion for Liverpool FC on his sleeve. So it's with great excitement that we congratulate Peter on following his dream to become the next CEO of his beloved Liverpool Football Club.

Pursuing a passion is the way to go

I can't say this doesn't shock me. For the last few years, whenever Peter Moore appeared on stage at EA, he's seemed much more tired and subdued than for the generally tough-guy persona we associate with him. The only time he showed any spark was when he was talking about FIFA, so there you go. He's seemed a little worn out with video games, and his eSports section of EA hasn't been in the news that much.

If soccer is his number 1 passion, then we wish him the best now that he has secured his dream job. Perhaps real sports will be the boost he needs to start kicking butts again.
