Pebble isn’t traditionally thought of as a “health” company, but the startup took a step in that direction on Monday with the introduction of Pebble Health. The new platform, which takes a bite out of the fitness tracking market, is designed to track your daily activity and also keep an eye on your sleep habits. Pebble says Health was developed with the help of researchers at Stanford University.

According to Pebble, Health stands apart because it doesn’t focus on arbitrary step counts. Instead, it focuses on personal success, encouraging users to try and beat their own averages. So if you average about 5,000 steps a day, Pebble will encourage users to try and slowly best that, and eventually bring that average up to 6,000 a day; you get the idea. Fact is, that’s actually pretty common on other wearables, too.

The new stats will show up in your timeline, and provide you with a daily report. Everything is automatic and should work without much interference from the user; Pebble says Health will integrate seamlessly with Google Fit and Apple HealthKit. The new update supports the Pebble Time, Time Steel and Time Round.

In addition to the introduction of Pebble Health, the company also announced a Health API, which developers can then build into their own apps. Finally, the company said it’s bringing the Pebble Time update to the rest of its lineup, which brings support for timeline and unlimited apps.
