On a long enough timeline, the eventually recall will just be for "all things with batteries in them everywhere," but right now it just seems like it. The latest recall comes, not from electronics giant Samsung, but from PDP, one of the most prolific peripheral manufacturers in gaming. PDP reports that their Energizer 2x Smart Charger can "overheat and damage the Xbox One video game controller, posing a burn hazard to customers."

While there haven't yet been any instances of injury resulting from this, PDP has received "24 reports of the chargers overheating and deforming the charger's plastic cover, including six reports of chargers emitting a burning odor."

Batteries are having a rough couple years

The recall affects 121,000 units in the United States and 10,000 between Canada and Mexico sold since last February. If you have an affected charger, don't put this off. There's a real hazard here. You can contact PDP directly to begin the recall process by going to their official recall page.

Products from the Hoverboard to laptop computers to, of course, the Galaxy Note 7 have seen recalls in the past year or so, and reports of battery fires seem more common than ever, so this is worth heeding if you have one of the affected units.
