It looks like we might see the next Overwatch hero a lot sooner than we expected given Blizzard’s track record on spacing releases out. Orisa, the 24th hero, only released in March, so we figured it’d be well into the summer until we heard anything about the next.

Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan spoke with IBTimes about the next hero, and he had some rather surprising things to say. When asked about whoever was coming next, Kaplan said “Yes! I absolutely know who the next hero is going to be.”

“The next hero is very far along in development, so we’re at the point where we’re doing art for that hero, we’re doing a lot of aggressive play-testing.

We know what that hero, what the abilities are and how they interact, so we’re at that point. The heroes past that hero are more in prototype, exploration phase but the next hero we’re pretty set on.”

Gotta be Doomfist… right?

The next hero, especially given the types of teases we saw leading up to Orisa’s reveal, has to be Doomfist. It must. I mean, the glove was stolen from Numbani. That piece of lore is clearly in motion, and it’d be nuts to think that Blizzard would get that ball rolling without the intention of bringing Doomfist to the masses quickly.

Or it could be someone else entirely… Yeah, I’m going with Doomfist.
