Overwatch‘s May release date is now official. An advertisement on IGN leaked the date earlier, so it was as good as confirmed, but that kind of thing should always be treated as rumor without something official. Things can change, ads can get pulled.

But it looks like that ad was accurate, and here’s the official announcement:

Overwatch marks Blizzard’s first entry into first person shooters and their latest entry into competitive gaming. The game will launch as a full-priced retail game, which was a surprise to many gamers, as both multiplayer gaming and Blizzard’s releases have tended toward free lately, with games like League of Legends and Dota 2 dominating the scene and Blizzard’s own Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone proving very successful in the free-to-play market. Rather than going to the route of asking players to buy which heroes they like, the game will ship with all 21 heroes at launch.

Overwatch hits PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 24.
