You ever find yourself just extremely tilted in Overwatch? You have time to kill, so you fire up Competitive Mode. You play a game or two, get on a few bad teams and just start losing. Horribly. You’re pissed, so you keep playing, but the losing streak rolls in and you see your rank absolutely nosedive.

I’ve been there. You’ve probably been there. It hurts.

Well, now it won’t hurt quite as bad. At least not as quickly, I suppose. When you go streaking (“We’re going streaking!”), a multiplier is applied to your Competitive Points. The longer the streak, the bigger the multiplier, both for wins and losses. Lots of losses in a row means a bigger multiplier and a larger toll is taken on your rank.

The multiplier isn’t going away, but the new system will make it come later. Here’s Overwatch Principle Designer Scott Mercer on the forums:

“We’re changing the tuning of the streak multiplier to be quite a bit less aggressive…You now need to win or lose more games in a row before any multiplier is used, and it scales up at a slower pace. Furthermore, we will now try to only use the multiplier in cases where the matchmaking system has some confidence that the player’s MMR and skill are wildly mismatched. In cases of natural, random streaks, you ideally shouldn’t see any acceleration either up or down at all.”
