Ouya - Console

With only hours left to go in its Kickstarter campaign, the folks behind the OUYA gaming console bring news of another gaming company possibly coming on board and support for up to four controllers.

With over 58,000 backers pledging over $7.8 million dollars, the Ouya gaming console is nearing the end of its highly successful pledge period on Kickstarter.  Before the pledge drive ends on August 9 at  1:00am EDT, however, the company has a couple of announcements that might push you over the edge if you've still been debating it.

The biggest news is that the company says they still can't discuss some of the gaming companies that there are ongoing negotiations with, but in particular they could bring up Namco Bandai:

NAMCO BANDAI Games and OUYA are currently in active discussions to bring some of the world's biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform. NAMCO BANDAI brings with it a rich history of iconic gaming franchises, from classics like PAC-MAN and GALAGA, to seminal franchises like TEKKEN and Ridge Racer, and we're excited to explore how we can work with OUYA to bring some great titles to the forthcoming console."

— Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America, Inc.

While OUYA has already announced partnerships with the likes of OnLive, this is a pretty significant name to have associated with this upstart console.

Also of note in the final day of pre-order announcements is the decision to have the console support up to four controllers at once.  This has become a standard feature on consoles, so it's nice to see that it will be coming along for the ride on the OUYA.

Shipments of the console are supposed to kick off in March of 2013, so now comes the six month wait to see if this console can go from concept to reality.  There are definitely some doubters out there this will ever ship, but here's hoping it will indeed be in our hands early next year.
