Outlast 2 releases this week for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The first game was relatively well received, though it did get some high marks for some inventive scares. This sequel promises more of that, and the screenshots look gorgeously gruesome.
Note the setting, the scum, the gore and the figures that seem to haunt the background of every single still. Of course, the original’s essentially trademark video camera returns at least in some form here, though I’m not sure if it’ll have the same presence as it did the first time around.
These screens, with or without the camera, are something else. Some of them are rather unnerving.
The early word on Outlast 2 is relatively strong
Horror games are interesting when it comes time for critics to play because they almost always split the field. Sure, there are some that universally loved or loathed, but the majority of the offerings tend to crop up a mix of both reactions.
This game seems to be scooping up that mixed bag of reactions. With that said, some of the early praise has been exceptionally positive. If you’re a fan of the genre, I say go for it.
