Microsoft teased a couple weeks ago that big announcements were coming for Xbox One backwards compatibility, and Tuesday’s Inside Xbox show delivered on that promise in spades with a new batch of original Xbox games that more than doubles the list of available titles. The original batch, announced last summer, was 13 titles. After this latest batch hits the system, though, we’ll have a total of 32 original Xbox games available to play.
The list of games runs the gamut of genres and publishers, and includes something for just about any old-school Xbox fan. Big titles include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Jade Empire, The Elder Scrolls IV: Morrowind, Star Wars: Battlefront I & II, Destroy All Humans, and more. The first batch hits a week from now on April 17, and the next hits about a week later on April 26.
Here’s the April 17 batch:
- Blinx: The Time Sweeper
- Conker: Live & Reloaded
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
- Hunter: The Reckoning
- Jade Empire
- Panzer Dragoon Orta
- SSX 3
And then on April 26, you’ll see:
- Destroy All Humans!
- Full Spectrum Warrior
- Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction
- MX Unleashed
- Panzer Elite Action: Fields of Glory
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Star Wars Battlefront II
- Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
- Star Wars Jedi Starfighter
- Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords
- Star Wars Republic Commando
That’s a huge stack of Star Wars titles, classic BioWare games, and deep games with tons of fun. If you own these games, you can just drop the disc into your system once the titles go live, but they’ll also be available to purchase for likely just a few bucks a piece on those dates.
On the same piece of hardware, you can now play the 2017 update of 2011’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrwind. If you own an Xbox One X, all three of these games will offer some level of enhanced visuals on Microsoft’s beefed up system.
Maybe it’s time to just stop buying new games and only play Bethesda games from now on. Between Elder Scrolls and Fallout, that’s five utterly gigantic games.
