Oppo is set to announce its next flagship smartphone later this month on March 19, but it appears the cat’s out of the bag. Several photos of the phone and its packaging recently surfaced on social network Weibo and on GizChina, providing the first clear look at what should compete with the best smartphones on the market today.

UnwiredView discovered the photos and says that we’re looking at the full HD model, which has a 1080p display instead of a 2K display, which is expected to appear on a different model of the phone. The device is said to offer a Snapdragon processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and more. One rumor suggested we would see a 50-megapixel camera on this device, but judging from the size of the lens and seeing that there isn’t a lump – something we saw with the Lumia 1020’s 41-megapixel camera – that rumor doesn’t seem to fit. Maybe it will appear on the version of this device with a 2K display, or not at all.

Oppo released a teaser shortly after the release of the Galaxy S5 that suggested it will offer a more powerful device, but judging from the specs above, we’re not quite seeing how that’s going to happen. On March 19 we’ll have the complete picture.
