Smartphone cameras are becoming even more powerful every year, and it seems every manufacturer is working to make theirs better than the rest. OnePlus today announced a new partnership with camera experts DxO to "enhance your photography experience" on the upcoming OnePlus 5.

There was a time when the camera seemed like an afterthought on many smartphones. Certain manufacturers invested a lot to make theirs spectacular, but others focused on different areas, like design and performance. Now cameras seem to have become a primary focus for the vast majority, with each handset maker working to make theirs the best of the bunch.

If you buy a high-end smartphone today, you're almost guaranteed an excellent camera. And they're only going to get better. OnePlus wants its own to deliver "some of the clearest photos around," so it has enlisted expert help from DxO to ensure the OnePlus 5 doesn't disappoint.

"We're happy to announce that we have teamed up with DxO to enhance your photography experience with our upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5," the Chinese startup announced today. "DxO is perhaps most well-known for creating the defining photography benchmark, the DxOMark. They've got years of imaging experience and expertise, both for professional cameras and for smartphones."

"Working alongside DxO, we're confident the OnePlus 5 will be capable of capturing some of the clearest photos around."

OnePlus hasn't offered any further details, so we'll have to wait until the OnePlus 5 gets its official unveiling — which could be as early as next month — to find out more about the kind of camera it will offer. However, recent leaks have suggested the device will have two rear-facing camera sensors — a feature that has become increasingly popular since Apple introduced the iPhone 7 Plus.
