The OnePlus 2 is so close we can taste it, but the Chinese phone-maker is already looking ahead to its next release. In a recent interview, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed plans for another new smartphone launching later this year.

When asked where OnePlus was headed next, Lau promised “another phone planned for this year.” He wouldn’t reveal anything else, but added that more details would be coming soon. Maybe he’ll even tease the device at the OnePlus 2 event later this month.

A report earlier this year suggested a cheaper OnePlus phone could be launching in the future. That seems like a smart option, assuming the company can still deliver a quality product. An even more affordable handset without a fingerprint reader or a metal design could still be pretty popular depending on its price.

In the meantime, we’re still waiting to see how the OnePlus 2 turns out. The second-generation smartphone is set to cost under $450 and come packed with high-end hardware. That includes a Snapdragon 810 chip, a fingerprint reader, USB-C, a 3300mAh battery and dual SIM support.

OnePlus is set to announce the new handset on July 27 and we’ll be on the lookout for any hints at its upcoming third smartphone. For now check out our growing gallery of OnePlus 2 leaks below.
