oxygenos announcement

OnePlus has finally put a name to its own upcoming ROM: OxygenOS.

After asking its userbase for suggestions, OnePlus has finally settled on a name for its upcoming ROM that will see it moving away from the version of Cyanogen it used on the OnePlus One. Not much is known yet about OxygenOS, but at least we finally have a name to refer to it by. As for the reasoning in the choice of name, it's a far more intriguing choice than you might have expected. On its forums, the company explains the choice.

As an element, Oxygen is the epitome of simplicity, yet it's also extraordinarily powerful.

Oxygen is all around us. It's part of us and everything we do. It creates the water that carves out valleys and moves mountains. By itself, it's simple and pure—a fundamental building block. But, as a part of something greater, it can do amazing things. Just like us.

As for the little amount of information that was revealed about the OS itself, OnePlus has simply said that it will be "open, customizable, and free of bloat and unnecessary features." Make of that what you will.

OnePlus will announce more information about OxygenOS on Feb. 12.

What do you think of the name? Can you see yourself telling friends and family that OxygenOS is the next big thing in mobile?
