OnePlus is taking a big step forward in 2019 to compete with the other Android flagship makers. In past years, it has taken measured steps, offering a fantastic smartphone experience to its customers while keeping a foot in the affordable range.
That's changing in 2019 with the OnePlus 7 Pro which is going to be available in a new Pro model that will challenge Samsung and Google in the high end smartphone market.
With the OnePlus 7 Pro officially unveiled, here is everything you need to know about OnePlus' powerful new flagship.
All the big OnePlus 7 details
OnePlus 7 Pro upgrade
OnePlus is only releasing one model of its new phones and it is known as the OnePlus 7 Pro, it's most powerful phone to date. It is a major upgrade over the existing OnePlus 6T, which fits into the mold of older traditional phones while the OnePlus deliver a big improvement.
The result of the pop-up camera is a gorgeous 6.67-inch display that basically has no bezel.
There's not getting around it, going for the moon, offering specs you'll only find in a premium flagship device. It comes with a stunning undisturbed edge-to-edge display without a notch thanks to the pop-up selfie camera. It's a feature that's been available in a few Chinese devices, but now it is making its way to a popular flagship device. The result is a gorgeous 6.6-inch display that basically has no bezel.
OnePlus also made sure the camera can compete with the Android stalwarts like Samsung and Google and even Apple. The new triple camera system offers a 48MP sensor, 8MP telephoto sensor and a 16MP ultra-wide sensor that matches the cameras we've seen on the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Huawei P30 Pro.
Besides the display and camera, the rest of the phone is pretty damn impressive. Powering it is a Snapdragon 855 processor with up to 12GB of RAM. It'll be running Android 9 Pie with OxygenOS out of the box.
These are specs
Though the OnePlus 7 is a carbon copy of the OnePlus 6T, it did borrow some of the flagship features from the OnePlus 7 Pro like the powerful new processor and upgraded main camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro, on the other hand, is a device that stands on its own with every bell and whistle you expected from a flagship device.

Breakthrough features of the OnePlus 7 Pro
We already mentioned the display of the OnePlus 7 Pro, but that wasn't the end of it. It is the highest resolution display (3120 x 1440) OnePlus has put one of its devices with 516 pixels per inch, measuring 6.67-inches diagonally. Couple that with the 90Hz refresh rate—the display shows 90 frames per second, instead of the standard 60 every other phone does—and this leads to a buttery smooth display.
This technology was made possible by the previously mentioned pop-up front facing camera. OnePlus has been teasing about introducing the feature to made way for a truly undisturbed display and now it has and it is wonderful to look at.
The last main feature of the OnePlus7 Pro is the price, which leads us to our next section.
How much is the OnePlus 7 Pro going to cost?
Here is where the bad news comes. Since the OnePlus 7 Pro is a powerful next-gen device that aims to compete with the big dogs, it is going to be expensive, but not as expensive as you think. How much you may ask, $669.
OnePlus has always been known for its relatively affordable devices, but with its new Pro option, it is aiming to be affordable in the flagship range, not the mid-range. The OnePlus 7 Pro start at $669 and will go up from there, offering more memory and storage if you are willing to pay extra. The $669 model with come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB memory, which should be enough for most people but in case you are willing to upgrade, the option is available.
When and where can you buy the OnePlus 7?
The OnePlus 7 Pro will go on sale beginning May 17. Just like the OnePlus 6T, the OnePlus 7 Pro will be available through T-Mobile. This gives consumers the option to finance the phone through a carrier instead of paying for the full price in one lump sum. You can also buy the phone outright through OnePlus' site.
The OnePlus 7 will be available in multiple trims and thre color options: Nebula Blue, Mirror Gray and Almond, which is basically just blue, black and gold.
Is there going to be a regular OnePlus 7?
At the time of the launch of the OnePlus 7 Pro, the answer would have been no because OnePlus did not even mention a regular OnePlus 7, but it is making one. It released a video after the fact that revealed the OnePlus 7 is really just an upgraded version of the OnePlus 6T.
The phone itself still looks the same with the metal and glass body and tear drop notch on the 6.4-inch AMOLED display. The fingerprint scanner also still lives under the display. What the display won't feature is the new 90Hz refresh rate as the Pro model.
Most of the improvements to the OnePlus 7 are coming under the hood. It will now be powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor, offer up to 8GB of RAM, and it will see its camera upgraded to the 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor the OnePlus 7 Pro uses as its main camera. Unfortunately, it still gets stuck with a 5MP depth sensor as the secondary camera. No fancy telephoto or ultra-wide sensor here.
Other noteworthy specs are the 256GB of storage and 3,700mAh battery.
Oddly enough, it doesn't look like the OnePlus 7 is launching in the U.S. for the time being. The phone will be available in the U.K. and other places, but there's no word yet on if it'll be available stateside any time soon. If you are thinking of importing one over, the OnePlus 7 is going for £499 in the U.K. (which coverts to $639), which at that point, just buy the OnePlus 7 Pro.
The OnePlus 7 Pro is a major change for OnePlus
When OnePlus first burst on to the scene, it did so as the so-called flagship killer. That ambitious aim was never fully realized, but it did become a major player in the smartphone market due to its affordable smartphones that undercut Apple and Samsung by hundreds of dollars.
The OnePlus 7 Pro signifies a major shift for the smartphone company. One that has it competing with Apple, Samsung and Google. Only time will tell if it is a smart move, but we are excited to see the innovation OnePlus introduces.
