The OnePlus 6T was announced this week and instantly became one of the best Android flagships. It strikes the perfect balance of affordability and power that makes it an appealing option to any would-be customer. It’s even available through a major US carrier now. About the only negative thing we can say about it is that it doesn’t have wireless charging, the now ubiquitous way to charge your phone, and OnePlus just gave us the worst answer for the disappointing omission.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently stated in an interview with Ubergizmo that the company did not include the feature in its new smartphone because the technology is just too slow.
“The technology for wireless charging is not terribly complex,” said Lau. “We could implement it but we haven’t wanted to because it’s been too slow.”
We completely disagree with Lau. While wireless charging is not as fast as wired charging, the convenience makes it worth the trouble. It’s the reason why Samsung and Apple and Google, two industry titans, include the feature in their phones.
On the other side, we admit that wireless charging is nowhere near as fast as OnePlus’ rapid charging. However, we would have appreciated the feature in the OnePlus 6T. Maybe OnePlus will finally come around when the OnePlus 7 is released next year.
