The OnePlus 5 is officially here, and probably the first question most have is: How does it contend with the Galaxy S8? The S8 has been around for a few months and is still considered the best Android device around. Let’s take a look at what each bring to the table.
Samsung truly laid down the gauntlet with the Galaxy S8. Not only is it the company’s latest flagship but it’s also the response to the Note 7 disaster. By now, most of you know how strong this response was and continues to be. We praised the S8 in our review, and our thoughts still remain the same. It is a great phone.
The Galaxy S8 packs a stunning 5.8-inch Infinity Display that is its crowning achievement. Inside it packs a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 3,000mAh battery, 64GB of storage with microSD expandability, and a top of the line 12MP camera.
Responding in kind, the OnePlus 5 matches or tops the S8 in every spec configuration. It comes with a mind boggling 8GB of RAM, 5.5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 835 processor,128GB of storage, 3,300mAh battery with Dash charging and a dual camera (16MP main camera, 20MP telephoto camera). There’s also a 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage version, but might as well go for the fully speced out version, right?
These specs come in a gorgeous all-aluminum body that’s available in two color options: Midnight Black and Slate Grey. The OnePlus 5 also sports its useful mute switch, fingerprint scanner, and 16MP front-facing camera. It’s not playing second fiddle to Samsung’s mightiest phone.
The OnePlus 5 was just announced, so it’s too soon to make a definitive statement about which device is better. Once we get the OnePlus 5 in our hands to review, we’ll be able to arrive to a concrete decision.
