I won’t lie to you, I’ve never really found the musou genre all that appealing. You know, the Dynasty Warriors-esque combat games that pit you, one crazy powerful character, against hundreds and hundreds of fodder-level enemies at once.

I guess I don’t find them appealing because they don’t make sense to me. That makes me weird, perhaps, but it’s true.

With One Piece though? It totally makes sense. The Straw Hat Crew regularly takes on hundreds of puny marines at once as they move about each ridiculous plot arc. The world is perfect for the musou genre, and that’s why I’m actually sort of excited to play One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3.

Bandai Namco announced that the game is leaving Japan for the west in the summer of next year. When it does make the international jump, it will do so one the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita and PC platforms.

We’ll have more on the game as it comes. For now, musou fans, should I be excited?
