Capcom just sent over three separate clips detailing five characters from the upcoming Okami sequel, Okamiden. Okamiden is set to release March 15th in the US for the DS. Each video check in at around a minute and features strictly moments of dialogue that showcase the unique characters.
The release also came with a bit more in terms of character description. From Capcom:
Kokari and Ume (dog) – Though the son of the hunter, Karude, Kokari has become fascinated with fishing. Once a timid boy, he has matured physically and mentally alongside his beloved dog, Ume. This time, with the intention of ridding the evil that attacked Agata Forest, he decides to take getting rid of it head on using the treasured fishing pole he inherited from his father.
Karude, Kokari’s Dad – The father of Kokari and a hunter living in Agata Forest, he really wishes his son would become a hunter. However, since Kokari has already begun to follow his own heart’s desire, Karude decides to forget what he wants and does what he can from the shadows to help make Kakori’s dreams a reality.
Mushi (dog) – One of the lives almost lost in the catastrophe nine months earlier, he was saved by his beloved dog, Hayabusa. He respects Ameterasu, both as a god and as a formidable rival.
Mushi’s Mama – Mushi’s mama is a no-nonsense woman who takes care of her rice field all by herself. Her field gets damaged quite often so she brings in a scarecrow. Just when she thought her field was safe a threat appears…
Sure, these clips may seem a bit boring to those unfamiliar with Okami. And that unfamiliarity, aside from sharing these clips, is a larger part of this post you’re reading now.
I loved Okami. I loved it on the PS2 and again on the Wii. I felt the game suffered from launching on a system that was on its way out of the spotlight. The PS2 was so near the end if its Sony rein that Okami was just sort of washed away in high critical regard and cult fanbase status.
Now Capcom’s releasing the sequel to Okami, Okamiden, on a portable that’s literally weeks away from becoming the lesser platform. I want to see these games succeed, I want to see as many Okamis as possible. However, Capcom’s release window is making it difficult for the brilliant title to be seen.
