You want the good news or the bad news? (I always like to start with the bad news.) We still don’t have a trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse, though footage was screened at Comic-Con over the summer, which means we might get something relatively soon. The good news is that the official synopsis for the movie has been released, giving us a clear idea of what to expect from Bryan Singer’s next comic book epic.

To be fair, we pretty much knew the plot, but this finalizes it.

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

As you can tell, a lot will be at stake, as Apocalypse (with the help of Magneto) will be a formidable foe. Other X-Men characters set to appear include Beast, Moira MacTaggert, Quicksilver, Havok, Storm, Jean Grey, Angel, Cyclops, Psylocke and Jubilee.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be the conclusion of a trilogy started by First Class, so you can bet it’ll be quite the film. X-Men: Apocalypse is set for a May 27, 2016 release.
