What you need to know

  • The Office is officially leaving Netflix.
  • Subscribers can still watch the show until January 2021.
  • The show will then be available on NBCUniversal.

In 2021, The Office will no longer be available on Netflix. But don't panic, because you can still watch the show—albeit on a competing streaming service.

NBC on Tuesday announced The Office will leave Netflix once its licensing deal expires in 2020. After that, the show will be made available on NBCUniversal, which is set to launch in the first quarter of 2020.

According to CNBC, Netflix attempted to keep the show on its service but its offer was rebuffed.

Although The Office ended back in 2013, the show has taken on a cult status, becoming Netflix's most-watched show in 2018. The show is so beloved that it attracts larger audiences than Friends and Parks & Recreation.

Netflix confirmed the news on its Twitter account, saying subscribers can binge watch the show until January 2021.

The move should make NBCUniversal a more enticing option when the ad-supported services launches next year.
