Microsoft announced on Tuesday that Office 365 Personal, a new edition that was announced last month, is now available to purchase. Office 365 Personal complements Office 365 Home — previously named Office 365 Home Premium — but costs less and was designed for a single user instead of a batch of people.
Office 365 Personal will set you back $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year for a single license, 20GB of OneDrive storage and 60 minutes of Skype calls monthly. Meanwhile, Office 365 Home will set you back $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year, but includes licenses for 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 20GB of storage each for up to 5 people. Both come with the full suite of apps including OneDrive, Excel, PowerPoint and Word, however, and that includes the recent support that was extended to the iPad.
I'm kind of stuck in the middle between the 365 Personal and 365 Home plans. I like the pricing of 365 Personal but, since I use both a Mac and a PC, I'd need two licenses and ultimately would be better served by the more expensive Office 365 Home bundle. For students who need access to Microsoft's services, however, or folks with a single PC and a tablet, Office 365 Personal appears to be a solid choice.
