Nokia Lumia 900 005

Nokia Music has arrived in the United States today. Available to users with a Lumia 900 or Lumia 710 smartphone, the service provides free access to over 150 exclusive playlists — without the need for a paid subscription, and without forcing you to listen to adverts.

The app can be downloaded for free from the Windows Phone Marketplace. In addition to ready-made playlists from a huge range of artists, users can create their own, choosing from a library of over a million tracks. Those playlists can then be streamed straight to your Lumia smartphone over a Wi-Fi or cellular connection, or they can be stored on the device for offline listening.

Nokia Music also offers a nifty feature called 'Gig Finger', which helps you find concerts nearby using your handset's built-in GPS.

Initially, the service is only available to the Lumia 900 and the Lumia 710 in the United States. However, we're hoping Nokia will eventually make Nokia Music available to other markets.

With just a fraction of the tracks, the service is certainly no Spotify killer (yet!). But the fact that Nokia Music is free could make it a hugely popular service.
