Nokia makes some of the best smartphone cameras around, but its latest Windows Phone devices currently come with two different photo-taking apps, Smart Cam and Pro Cam, leaving it up to the user to figure out which application is right for any particular situation. That may change, however, if Nokia combines the two apps into a single Nokia Camera feature.
The new camera app will likely launch next month on the Lumia 1520 phablet, which Nokia is all but certain to unveil at a press event scheduled for Oct. 22. The 6-inch device is expected to come equipped with a 20-megapixel rear shooter, while pre-existing Lumia devices including the 920, 925, 928 and 1020 will also get Nokia Camera, according to The Verge.
If the Finnish company does come out with a new camera app called Nokia Camera, it could be featured in future Windows Phones released after Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia’s mobile division goes through, creating a lasting legacy for the company long after its Lumia branding has been put to rest.
