nokia-lumia-820-color-rangeThe Lumia 920’s younger, mid-range brother was announced at Nokia’s gala Wednesday morning, and it sounds like an excellent budget-friendly device for those looking to dip in Windows Phone 8 waters. In short, it’s a more toned down statement from the hard lines and sharp corners of the 920.

Built with the company’s excellent polycarbonate unibody, the Lumia 820 comes equipped with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, Nokia City Lens, Smart Shoot, NFC, wireless charging, 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage. There’s actually quite a bit to behold in this device despite getting second billing to the 920.

The biggest draw will likely be the Lumia 820’s removable back, which gives users access to a microSD slot (up to 32GB). Combine that with the embedded 8GB onboard storage and 7GB of free SkyDrive storage, and users gets a pretty hefty package.

Combining this experience with Microsoft’s sleek new Windows Phone 8 OS will be fun to test out. WP8 is not only exciting for its beautiful approach to the mobile market, but because of its fluid experience and wonderful UI animations. This is definitely one to look out for later this year when it debuts on T-Mobile and AT&T.
