nokia leak weibo

Nokia and Microsoft are supposed to be working on a handful of new Windows Phone handsets behind the scenes. Today we're getting a first look at one of these upcoming smartphones, though it's still unclear exactly which model this might be. The photos, which show the device from three separate angles, come to us via Chinese social network Weibo without any explanation or context.

Chinese blog WPDang was first to spot the leak, and says a separate source confirmed the device in question is an upcoming mid-range Lumia 830. This could be the rumored Tesla/Superman, which is expected to launch on AT&T and Verizon later this year. The metal design actually reminds us of the Lumia Icon more than anything else, though that massive rear camera has us thinking this could be another device entirely.

Alongside its next mid-range handset, Microsoft is also said to be working on a follow-up to the Lumia 1020. The flagship phone, codenamed McLaren, may offer 3D gesture controls, and WPDang adds that it could pack a 5.2-inch 2K display, Snapdragon 805 processor and an equally powerful 41-megapixel camera. The massive rear camera pictured on this device looks a lot like the Lumia 1020, though it may not stick out quite as much as the original phone.

Of course this is just a guess, but if these photos do show the McLaren that means Nokia could be taking design elements from a number of its own phones to create a new flagship. Combine the Lumia Icon's sleek metal frame with the 1020's impressive camera power and the result is sure to be a hit, right? The McLaren is expected to launch sometime this fall, so hopefully we won't have to wait much longer to get an official look at the upcoming smartphone.
