The South African division of EA has released a statement on its Facebook page which indicates that the publisher will not be releasing the highly anticipated Titanfall in that region of the world. The reason given? Poor Internet connections.
Here's the full statement.
After conducting recent online tests for Titanfall, we found that the performance rates in South Africa were not as high as we need to guarantee a great experience, so we have decided not to release Titanfall in South Africa at this time.
We understand this is a disappointment for local fans and will keep fans posted on any future plans regarding the release of Titanfall in South Africa.
As you might have guessed, this decision has left South African gamers incredibly disgruntled. A ton of them have taken to the comment section below the same exact statement in order to voice their frustrations.
We've selected one of the more, shall we say, polite comments.
Seriously disappointed with you EA, I pre-ordered the game even though I knew we wouldn't have local server.
I was hopping [sic] that you would implement some servers here, considering South Africa is you [sic] biggest market in Africa, but it seems like you don't care about the people in Africa at all.
Come on EA, we have supported you through the good and bad times and now you leave us out to dry.
Do something and make it happen because I can tell you that you [sic] going to lose millions if you keep ignoring this continent.
It should be noted, though, that several fans indicated that their time with the beta in South Africa was very laggy. So much so that the game wouldn't have been fun.
Titanfall will not have an offline campaign mode, either. So those hoping that maybe they'd be able to play the game alone in South Africa are out of luck as well.
What do you think of EA's decision here? Should they release a product into an environment that likely won't enjoy it due to latency? Or, are they better off not releasing it at all?
