Nintendo this week announced many new details about games coming for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch. During the event it also took the opportunity to touch upon Nintendo Switch Online, revealing the names of the 20 NES games that will be available at launch.
When the Nintendo Switch Online service was originally announced earlier this year, Nintendo revealed the first ten titles that would be available but it kept the last ten a mystery. Luckily, that mystery is over and we know the games that will fill us with nostalgia for months to come.
Here's the list of NES classics available at launch:
- Soccer
- Super Mario Bros.
- The Legend of Zelda
- Ghosts'n Goblins
- Excitebike
- Tennis
- Ballon Fight
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Yoshi
- Donkey Kong
- Ice Climber
- Double Dragon
- Ice Hockey
- Mario Bros.
- Dr. Mario
- River City Ransom
- Pro Wrestling
- Baseball
- Tecmo Bowl
- Gradius
In a bit of a surprise, Nintendo also revealed that it will add three additional NES games every month over the next three months. Here's how the additions breakdown:
- October: Solomon's Key, NES Open Tournament Golf, Super Dodge Ball
- November: Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, TwinBee
- December: Wario's Woods, Ninja Gaiden, Adventures of Lolo
The most interesting of the bunch is Metroid, the classic NES game that is still popular even now. Nintendo revealed at E3 2017 it has a Metroid Prime 4 Switch game in the works but has yet to update us on the game's status. We'll have to settle for playing the original Metroid on the Switch for the time being, which isn't a bad substitute.
You can enjoy the trip down memory lane when Nintendo Switch Online launches September 18.
